IS INDIA READY FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES ?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) can be of many types such as electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, electric bikes, electric trains, etc. but among them putting Electric Cars on road is the vision of the Indian Government. So, whether India is ready for Electric Vehicles or not can be concluded by looking at the Pros and Cons of it.

BENEFITS :

  • Eco-Friendly : EVs are 100% eco-friendly and that is their biggest advantage. In a country like India, where pollution level rises to 'Emergency' level in some parts, we need this type of things to come up because vehicular pollution contributes almost 25% of overall pollution during winter.
  • Cost Effective : Since advance technology is used in it, the cost of maintenance is low. This will make the middle class family go for it.
  • Reduction in Noise Level : EVs are quieter to operate and thereby leads to reduction in noise pollution.

DRAWBACKS :

  • Infrastructure : India lacks significant infrastructure and necessary technology to support EVs. Main component such as high density batteries is a challenge and also non-availability of charging stations is another big challenge for EVs. Because if a person don't get charging station in the vicinity of their area, they won't be able to drive the car, so the availability of charging station is a major hurdle.
  • High Initial Investment : The cost of EVs are comparatively very high than petrol or diesel driven cars. And since in India, we have a majority of people in middle and lower income group, the high cost of EVs dissuade them from buying.
  • Resistant to change : Indians prefer petrol, diesel or gas driven cars. They do not seem ready to buy EVs.
Looking at the above mentioned Pros and Cons, I can say that EVs offer a lot of benefit but the problems or the drawbacks that it had need to be sort first, to make it more consumer friendly.

The Government of India is planning to convert the entire fleet of vehicle to fully electric by 2030 and if they manage to do that, India will be the largest market for the EVs in the world.

As per the study of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the annual sale of EVs will reach 30000 units in 2022 as opposed to 2000 units in 2017. Also by 2040, about 13% of the passenger vehicle plying on road will be electric. So, this shows that slowly and steadily sale of EVs are on rise. Hence, I can conclude than India is getting ready for EVs, though it will take time but definitely EVs are the future of India.

WHAT SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY FOR THE FUTURE OF INDIA : AGRICULTURE OR MANUFACTURING

Agriculture and Manufacturing are the two face of same coin. Without agriculture a country cannot exist and without manufacturing a country cannot develop. I'll first discuss the importance of both of them individually so that it becomes clear what should be our priority.

AGRICULTURE

  •  Agriculture is the basic source of food supply of any country. It is very important for a country to be self sufficient in food supply as it is the basic necessity of human being.
  •  Agriculture apart from being a source of food supply, it is also a major source of employment in India. In India, 70% of the population lives in rural area and the main source of occupation there is farming. It employs nearly half of total workforce. This shows how much we are dependent on agriculture as a source of employment.
  • India accounts for around 8% of total global agricultural output. This shows how much agriculture intensive we are as a country. And a bulk of food crop is exported also, so agriculture is a source of revenue too.

MANUFACTURING

  • Manufacturing is also a very important sector for a developing country like India. In 1990, India's GDP was higher than China's GDP but if we see now, China's economy is close to $11 trillion and our economy is around $2.2 trillion and the major reason behind this is the growth of manufacturing sector in China. This shows the importance of manufacturing sector in a country.
  • During the past two decades, this sector has been more or less stagnant contributing about 15% to the GDP, but in the past couple of years it had got a major boost most famously in the name 'Make In India' Campaign. In the past two years it had contributed over 17% o the GDP.
  • So the manufacturing sector is developing and it is also very important to develop this sector in order to reduce the unemployment level in India because we cannot create much job opportunities in agricultural sector, we have to create job in this sector by developing Industries.
As I have said in the beginning also, Agriculture and Manufacturing are the two face of the same coin. We cannot give priority to one sector and leave other. Both of them has to be taken care simultaneously in order to develop our economy.

And to conclude, for me it's not the issue of Agriculture or Manufacturing. It's Agriculture and Manufacturing.

ARE WOMEN LEADERS BETTER THAN MEN LEADERS ?

Leadership plays a very important role today, specially in a world where people are mostly trend followers. Most people follow someone as their inspiration or as a leader. A leader can be a head of a political party, a captain of a sports team, the manager of a company or any person who leads a group of people in any situation.

But the point here is, does leadership quality depends on the gender of the leader. Is there anything that women leaders are better than men leaders.

Leadership is something that is unbiased as far as the gender of the person is concerned. Leadership has nothing to do with the gender of the person, it is the quality of the person that makes him/her a good leader. We have great leaders across the world who are men like Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, etc and at the same time we have equally good leaders who are women like Angela Merkel, Theresa May, Aung Sann Suu Kyi, etc. This shows that leadership quality does not depend on the gender of a person.

A good leader is one who help themselves and also let others do the right things. They set goals and the path through which that goals will be achieved. They map out things that need to be done as an individual and as a team player.

Leadership is not an end result to something, it is a process which requires application of knowledge and skill to influence the people following the leader. Leadership is not something that can be inherited or learned. It is something natural.

"GREAT LEADERS ARE BORN, NOT MADE"

Men and Women, who are great leaders have got leadership qualities on their own, they haven't acquired it or have inherited. They have just applied their knowledge to recognise this quality in them an utilise it for the betterment of others.

Looking at the qualities of a good leader and the thing that leadership is a process, it is pretty clear that leadership is not gender biased. It is the quality of a person that makes him/her a good leader. Though in the present world, if we look around, we will find that there are more men leaders than women leaders but that does not prove the fact that men leaders are better than women leaders.

So, the answer to the question "Are women leader better than men leaders ?" is crystal clear. Leadership depends on the quality of the person and not on the gender.

SPACE RESEARCH PROJECT ARE A WASTE OF MONEY

Nowadays, Space Research projects are on the rise in every country. Organisations such as NASA and ISRO are taking more active part in this and the Government of the respective countries are also supporting these space research and investing huge amount in it. But are these space researches actually worth of the time and amount being invested in it.

Space Research is definitely something which be done but before investing in these researches we should see that can we invest these money somewhere else where it will give more return on investment and also will be good for humanity.

Before doing research outside our Planet Earth, we should first look at our own planet. There are millions of people going to sleep hungry everyday, there are people who don't have shelter. Ain't these money be used for them. There are economically backward countries that don't have enough finance to do much development work. These money can be used to fund them also, so that the entire world becomes developed.

Even if we look at our Planet Earth, it still is unexplored and a lot is left to be explored in Earth itself. Seabeds, Volcanic Regions and many other things can be and should be explored instead of doing space researches.

Another big issue that needs to be addressed is Global Warming. The Government should invest to control Global Warming and researchers should come up with methods to reduce Global Warming. This will also be a useful investment as this is a major concern today with ever increasing pollution.

The amount of time and dedication that is being given to space research should have been used to improve the life life of common people. We do not need to find out right now whether we can live on Mars or not because Earth may be inhabitable and people will die. People are already dying because of hunger and thats need to be addressed first.

Also, recently space research is becoming a parameter to show a country's strength. The Government is spending huge amount in these just to boost about their technology advancement and also to show that they are developing their countries. But in reality no direct benefit can be reaped from it. In the long run, after few decades some benefit may be seen but as of now these researches don't give any direct benefit.

To conclude, I am not against space research or activities like this but these things should not be given priority as it is given. We have hundreds of problems requiring urgent attention where huge investment is required, that should be given priority instead of space research. First we should make ourselves better and then we should look at anything else.

INDIAN EDUCATION NEEDS TO BE REVISED

Present education system in India is pretty boring. A normal child schooling starts from Nursery and that goes till class 12. Various subjects are introduced in school and a student is asked to make a choice after class 10, which stream they want to take - Science, Commerce or Humanities.

If you take Science - you will become Doctor or Engineer; Commerce - CA or MBA; Humanities - Teacher. This is the most common thing we have been hearing from our elders. But this is wrong. India is opening to a lot of new professions that will be very demanding in future and equally important for the growth of our country. A child should be encouraged to take up a profession which he/she is good for him/her.

IS INDIA READY TO GO CASHLESS ?

"Is India ready to go Cashless ?" This question is being asked by a lot of people since past two years. The answer to it can only be given after a thorough research on the present condition of how people deal in cash.

Cashless Economy is an economy where there is no physical circulation of cash and all the transactions are done through online mode. Going cashless will be a boon for the society with an infinite number of benefits. It will bring much needed transparency. All the transactions of the merchants will be revealed and they have to pay taxes accordingly. Corruptions can be curbed, as it is not possible to take much bribe online.

AADHAR - UTILITY IS MORE THAN PERCEIVED

Aadhar which was introduced by the UPA Government in 2009, got greater importance since 2014 when the NDA Government took over and has now became the most vital document of an Indian Citizen. Aadhar, although, can be said that it's just an Identity Card of a person, but the amount of information it holds is enormous - from Personal Details to Fingerprint to Iris Scan, everything that is important to a person is stored in Aadhar database.

The Government of India made it compulsory for people to link Aadhar with Bank a/c to get Direct Benefit Tranfer (DBT) which has proved to be beneficial but was heavily criticized by a lot of people. The Government also ordered for mandatory linking of Aadhar with PAN Card and SIM Card and also several deadlines were given to do it. But the matter of Privacy being compromised was pending in the Supreme Court and they repeated announced that Aadhar is voluntary and not mandatory.

The Supreme Court and the Government order contradicted in linking Aadhar which led to the people being confused . Though the Supreme Court never supported the Government argument that it would reap huge benefit by linking Aadhar to various social service, majority of the people have already linked their Bank a/c, PAN Card and SIM Card with Aadhar in anticipation that these would be deactivated if they don't do so.

Linking Aadhar has served the many purpose of the Government - it has brought into light persons having multiple PAN Card, increased Tax collection, provided an Identity Card to people which can be used anywhere and everywhere; and many more purposes.

The Aadhar is a very useful project launched by the Government. The aim to have a single document which will almost have the entire data and information of a person was a pretty good idea. But a better planning was required as far as security of the data stored in UIDAI is concerned. Several cases of data being leaked or compromised were heard and that led to the resentment among people. Security of data is a matter which the UIDAI will have to look into and provide a concrete solution to it, if it wants to implement the Government's Vision completely or else Aadhar will be criticized every now and then on this ground and will lose its importance.

The Aadhar with its capabilities can be utilized much more and can act as a powerful tool for the Government to eradicate Corruption, Poverty and many underlying problems of the society but that will require the Government to make it work the way that goes well with the people and also they will have to make sure that the flaws that are there being removed to make it a foolproof system.

If these are done then Aadhar will surely replace all other Id Cards. The Government's objective will also be fulfilled and it will also be very fruitful for the people in the long run.

N.B.: This is an essay written by me on the topic "Aadhar - Utility is more than perceived" and not a report/news on Aadhar
