Swachhata Hi Seva campaign started from 15th September
2017 and will continue till 2nd October 2017, the day Gandhi Jayanti is
celebrated. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about it in his Mann Ki
Baat speech in the last week of September. He urged the countrymen to create an
environment of cleanliness in the entire country. 2nd October 2017 will mark
the third year of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the PM Modi on 2nd October
2015.
On 15th September, President Ram Nath Kovind launched
the Swachhata Hi Seva movement from a village in Kanpur. Since then the
campaign is gaining great momentum. The movement is creating leaders from
common man. People are leading groups and showing great enthusiasm toward
cleanliness. According to the ministry,
enthusiastic cleanliness initiatives among the people have become a feature
ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat initiative.
It is a movement which people are
running themselves. The movement is generating a lot of positive actions among
people specially youngsters which are taking an active part in the
movement.
PM Narendra Modi has personally
written letters to people across the nation to spread the message of
cleanliness. Celebrity like Anushka Sharma, Anil Kapoor and many other got
letter from the Prime Minister to spread the fortnight cleanliness drive among
people.
Superstar Rajinikanth extended full
support to "Swachhata Hi Seva" mission through Twitter. Celebrity
like Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar, Anu Malik and many others also pledged
their support in the cleanliness drive. National team of various sports are
told to adopt and clean a slum. Several sports personality too joined the
movement.
A 12 hours Cleanathon is being organized
by NDTV on 2nd October at 9 am. People can join the #Mere10Guz
challenge and clean 10 yards. After cleaning they will have share their
pictures and stories and will have to nominate 5 friends for the challenge. The
participant could get a chance to feature in NDTV 12 hour Cleanathon.
Since the
launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Sanitation coverage has gone up from 39% to
67.5%. 195 districts and 2.36 lakh village have been declared Open Defecation
Free. According to data provided in the Swachh Bharat Mission website, 27583996
citizens have participated in the movement till now.
