NEW CURRENCY

A man shows new currency notes of Rs.200 and Rs.50 outside the RBI office in New Delhi.

The RBI on 25th August launched the Rs.200 and Rs 50 denomination note in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series bearing the signature of Urjit R Patel, the Governor of RBI. The new denomination has the motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse, with bright yellow being the base colour of the note.

At present, the notes are available only through select RBI officers and branch, but will be available soon across the country.

This is the first time Rs.200 denomination is being launched in India. It will reduce the burden of Rs.100 denomination post demonetisation and will resolve problems people face because of the high value Rs.2000 denomination.
