The Quarter Final between Brazil and Germany will remain one of
the most thrilling game in the U-17 World Cup, where the team scoring first and
maintaining that lead in almost the entire game ended on the losing side.
Three-time champion, Brazil won the match 2-1 against European heavyweight
Germany in Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, where more than 66000
people cheered for their favourite team and scripted a memorable victory for
them.
Germany scored their first and only goal of the match in the 21st
minute through penalty which was shot by Jann-Fiete Arp. In the first half of
the match, the Brazilians didn't look to play up to the mark but things changed
when they came to play the second half and Weverson was brought in as
substitution for Candido.
A wave of attack was carried out by Weverson in the second half,
the pressure piled up by successive attacks ultimately resulted in Weverson
scoring the equalizer in the 71st minute providing much sought relief to the
Brazilian side. But what changed the look of the match completely was
Paulinho's goal in the 77th minute. Within a span of 6 minutes the Brazilians
scored their second goal. They celebrated the goal with the fans in the gallery
which the fans would remember for a long time. The goal in the 77th minute
ensured that they are through to the Semi Final where they will meet England on
25th October.
After the second goal by Brazil, Germany tried everything they
could but to no avail and the scoreboard remained 2-1 when the final whistle
was blown by match referee Jair Marrufo. The Brazilian coach Amadeu looked
happy and everyone in the dugout celebrated the win with great joy as at one
time it seemed that their chance of winning is very low.
